BERLIN (dpa-AFX) - The head of the energy company Eon has criticized the German government for its lack of an energy master plan. Leonhard Birnbaum said on Tuesday evening that the traffic light coalition was instead dealing with side issues such as the ban on gas boilers and the definition of green hydrogen. "Two years after the traffic light coalition took office, we still lack an energy master plan to lead our industrialized nation into the year 2030 in terms of energy."

Among other things, Birnbaum referred to a capacity problem with electricity. "Following the phase-out of nuclear energy, there is still no answer as to where the backup is to come from and how capacities are to be brought onto the market." The answer to the capacity problem and climate change cannot seriously be for Germany to rely fully on coal again, he said./svv/DP/stk
