Donkey Republic has signed an agreement for deploying 700 pedal bikes and 80 e-bikes in the region of Kiel, Germany with a contract volume of EUR 4 million for the coming 5 years. (Contracting Authority: Kiel Region). Donkey Republic has signed a subsidized MaaS model-contract with KielRegion and both parties have been working together on the roll-out plan.

The start of the operation will be in January 2023, with a duration of 5 years. Once the operation is up and running a total contract value of approximately EUR 4 million is expected throughout the lifetime of the contract, which is in line with Donkey Republic´s business plan for 2024. Donkey Republic will be responsible for providing the bikes and ensuring a smooth operation of the bike share.

The area of operation includes the city of Kiel and the neighboring municipalities Eckernförde, Rendsburg, Preetz and Plön. These municipalities cooperate under the name KielRegion and the bikes will be operated under the name of their local bike share: SprottenFlotte. Donkey Republic bikes will be integrated into the region's local transit scheme, helping to fully integrate Donkey rides with the rest of the public transport. This shows again how Donkey Republic bike share is treated as a part of public transit.

Donkey Republic will be deploying its 700 pedal bikes presenting a Green color and 80 E-bikes in blue. 12 Cargo bikes, as well as 5 E-Cargo bikes integrated into the Donkey Republic system are also part of the KielRegions fleet. Donkey Republic carefully selects high quality components and ensures that the design is not only modern, but also practical and safe.

The bikes are built to withstand heavy rental usage in all weather conditions, and have been designed to make them durable to minimize repairs and replacement of parts. They also feature the typical Donkey Republic design which has been nominated for the Danish Design Award 2021.
