Copel announced that it is investing BRL 300 million (USD 127.2 million/EUR 93 million) in transmission upgrades, aimed at guaranteeing the normal supply in its concession area in southern Parana state during the FIFA 2014 World Cup. Copel kicked off two high-tension power lines connected to Arena da Baixada stadium, which will host matches of the forthcoming sport venue. The lines required BRL 1.2 million investments and formed part of thirty projects defined by Copel as priority for the normal supply in Parana state capital Curitiba and other municipalities during the World Cup.

The company plans to build thirteen new distribution lines in Curitiba and on Parana's coast for the event. By April, Copel will complete the construction of eight new substations and the upgrade of five substations in Curitiba and neighboring municipalities. Also, the company has acquired five new mobile power substations and two mobile diesel generators to be used in moments of peak demand.
