FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) - Commerzbank will publish its interim results for the first three months of 2023 this Wednesday (7:00 a.m.). Analysts expect the bank to have earned significantly more in the quarter than a year earlier thanks to rising interest rates and lower provisions for possible loan defaults.

After a net profit of 1.4 billion euros for the full year 2022, CEO Manfred Knof had held out the prospect of "significantly higher consolidated earnings" for the current year. The Frankfurt-based financial institution expects additional tailwind from its return to Germany's premier stock market league: Commerzbank shares have been listed on the Dax again since February 27.

For the first quarter of the current year, analysts expect a pre-tax profit of 765 million euros. Below the line, Commerzbank is expected to have earned 481 million euros, according to the average estimate. In the first three months of 2022, the institution had earned 529 million euros before taxes and reported 298 million euros in net income./ben/DP/jha
