BHP Group said operations at the Saraji metallurgical coal mine in eastern Australia are suspended after a worker was killed in a vehicle incident Monday afternoon.

The Saraji open-pit mine in Queensland's Bowen Basin is owned by BMA, a 50-50 joint venture between the world's largest miner by market value and Japan's Mitsubishi. BHP reported its share of production from the mine as roughly 4.6 million metric tons for the year through June 2023.

"We are working closely with the Mines Inspectorate and relevant authorities," BHP said in a statement on Tuesday. The miner said the person worked for one of its contracting partners.
