ORTEC® Wins Contract to Provide High-Purity Germanium Spectroscopic Portal Monitors at Abu Dhabi's New Port of Khalifa
Oak Ridge, TN, January 16, 2013-The ORTEC Products Group of AMETEK Advanced Measurement Technology has been awarded a contract to deliver ORTEC's new Detective-SPMTM spectroscopic portal monitors as the primary radiation and nuclear threat inspection solution for the Port of Khalifa, Abu Dhabi's new flagship state-of-the-art gateway.
The Detective-SPM portal monitoring system is a modular solution that detects, identifies, and locates the lowest quantity of special nuclear material in a stream of commerce. Utilizing commercially available IDM-200TM detectors, the Detective-SPM supports primary or secondary modes of inspection. The Detective-SPM's unique ability to be installed within one meter of the X-ray imaging system optimizes system configuration and flexibility for the port of entry.
"This contract represents a major milestone for ORTEC in establishing high-purity Germanium (HPGe) technology as the benchmark for portal monitoring systems used in port security around the world," notes Frank Vorwald, ORTEC Business Unit Manager.
Shielded special nuclear material poses one of the greatest threats to nuclear security. System integration of high-purity Germanium radiation identification with specialized X-ray offers significant advancements in addressing this challenge.
