Shipping group CMA CGM announced on Thursday the signing of a strategic partnership with Google to accelerate the deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) within its businesses.

The Marseille-based shipping group explains that the integration of AI tools developed by the Californian group aims to facilitate decision-making processes for its teams, whether in calculating ship itineraries, container handling or inventory management.

The aim, says the group in a press release, is to 'revolutionize transport by improving efficiency, responsiveness and adaptability to market fluctuations and disruptions'.

Under the terms of the agreement, Ceva Logistics, CMA CGM's freight management subsidiary, will use solutions derived from Google technologies to better manage its 10.3 million m2 of storage capacity.

The partnership will also involve CMA Media, the media subsidiary of Rodolphe Saadé's group that owns La Provence, Corse Matin and La Tribune, whose journalists will henceforth use Google's AI tools for tasks such as summarizing and translating documents, generating content extracts for social networks and digitizing archives.
