International stocks trading in New York closed higher on Thursday.
The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts moved up 1.5% to 143.80. The European index edged up 1.2% to 139.30. The Asian index rose 2.1% to 167.27. The Latin American index gained 1.4% to 179.19, while the emerging-markets index advanced 2.1% to 278.22.
ABB Ltd. was among those whose ADRs traded actively.
The Swiss technology company gained 1.8% on plans to expand its existing robotics headquarters and factory in Michigan, which is expected to be completed in November.
Barclays PLC gained 2.8% as European banks rebounded after news that Credit Suisse Group AG is borrowing from the Swiss National Bank to strengthen liquidity reverberated through the sector.
