ABB has announced the acquisition of Swiss start-up Sevensense, a leading provider of AI-based 3D vision navigation technologies for autonomous mobile robots (AMRs).

''This is an important step towards our vision of a workplace where AI-based robots assist people, meeting our customers' needs for flexibility and intelligence in a context of critical skills shortages,'' said Sami Atiya, president of ABB Robotics and Discrete Automation.

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. Following pilot projects for its automotive and logistics customers, ABB will integrate Sevensense's technology into the company's AMR portfolio.

The mobile robot market is expected to grow by 20% by 2026, from $5.5 billion to $9.5 billion, and ABB's AI-powered 3D vision technology is at the forefront of this growth.

' With the acquisition of Sevensense, ABB becomes the leader in next-generation AMR, offering Visual SLAM in autonomous mobile robots, as well as an integrated portfolio covering robots and machine automation solutions, all managed by our value-creating software. said Marc Segura, President of ABB's Robotics Division.
