LAREDO, Texas, Jan. 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Webb County is partnering with Enterprise Fleet Management to reduce costs and optimize its local fleet of nearly 500 light-duty vehicles. Once fully implemented, the new partnership is expected to save Webb County an average of more than $170,000 each year.

"Webb County has a large and aging fleet spread out across our service area, which can be a real challenge to manage efficiently," said John Galo, Webb County Commissioner, Precinct 3. "Partnering with Enterprise Fleet Management will let us realize significant cost savings and provide us more dependable vehicles to do work for our residents."

Historically, the County's approach to fleet management had been decentralized, with each individual department controlling and managing its own fleet. Enterprise, however, is now able to manage the routine and regular maintenance for Webb County's newly leased cars, trucks and vans. When the program is fully operational across the board, Enterprise will be providing vehicle registration and reporting metrics to ensure proper fleet optimization.

Enterprise's centralized approach to reporting maintenance also will provide the County greater insight into maintenance schedules, records and expenses. And, once the vehicles have reached the optimum point in their lifecycle, Enterprise will leverage its remarketing expertise to auction and resell the vehicles for the County.

Previously, more than 200 of Webb County's vehicles were 11 years old of age or older, or had logged more than 129,000 miles. The County selected Enterprise because of its extensive experience managing medium-sized municipal fleets. The County is a member of The Interlocal Purchasing System, of which Enterprise Fleet Management, a full-service fleet management business, is an awarded vendor.

"Our partnership is going to help reduce Webb County's fuel consumption and maintenance costs immediately," said Steve Bloom, President of Enterprise Fleet Management. "This initiative is also another example of how Enterprise's unique network can support municipal and county governments as well as further strengthen local transportation infrastructure in the communities we serve for the long term."
