The U.S. Department of Energy on Thursday said it will ask biofuels industry stakeholders for input on how the government can help "rapidly develop" sustainable aviation fuel supply chains that would help the country meet targets set by the Biden administration's SAF Grand Challenge, which aims for 3 billion gal/year of domestic SAF production by 2030 and 100% SAF usage by 2050.

The government wants to hear from fuel producers, researchers, government agencies and any other stakeholders who could help the U.S. meet those targets, according to a Request for Information released by DOE. The agency set a Nov. 2 deadline for feedback.

The Departments of Energy, Transportation and Agriculture launched the SAF Grand Challenge in 2021 to help scale up domestic SAF production.
