S. 2787 would increase the pay grade for the Director of Podiatric Service at the Veterans Health Administration and change the position title to Podiatric Medical Director. On the basis of information from the Department of Veterans Affairs, CBO estimates that raising the pay for that position would cost less than $500,000 over the 2022-2026 period; such spending would be subject to the availability of appropriated funds.

On May 18, 2021, CBO transmitted a cost estimate for H.R. 2545, a bill to amend title 38, United States Code, to clarify the role of doctors of podiatric medicine in the Department of Veterans Affairs, and for other purposes, as order reported by the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs on May 4, 2021. The two bills are similar, and CBO's estimates of the cost of implementing them are the same.

The CBO staff contact for this estimate is Etaf Khan. The estimate was reviewed by Leo Lex, Deputy Director of Budget Analysis.
