National Taiwan University (NTU) held the Chinese New Year Ancestor Worship Ceremony and luncheon on January 15. It was hosted by its president, Dr. Yang, Pan-Chyr, and attended by Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) vice-minister Roy Yuan-Rong Leu along with over 700 overseas compatriot, foreign, mainland Chinese students and teachers.

Leu stated that more and more overseas students are coming to study in Taiwan. The OCAC not only cares about their studies, but also encourages them either to contribute to economic development of their place of residence or work in Taiwan after graduation. Since the Chinese New Year is the time for reunion, gratitude and harvest, he wished them a happy new year and making progress with their studies.

Yang said that the event commemorates the virtues of gratitude and reverence for ancestors, passing on Chinese traditional culture. He hoped that the students realized its significance.

On the day, apart from the ancestor worship ceremony, there were also a calligraphy activity, lion dance and hot dance performances, and a lucky draw. The NTU president and guests went table to table to distribute red envelopes to the students. Everyone welcomed the coming Chinese New Year happily.
