WHO:  

Steel Market Development Institute (SMDI), a business unit of the American Iron and Steel Institute, grows and maintains the use of steel through strategies that promote cost-effective solutions in the automotive, construction and container markets, as well as for new growth opportunities in emerging steel markets. SMDI's Automotive Applications Council, focuses on advancing the use of steel in the automotive market. The SMDI automotive market program brings together the steel and automotive industries and federal partners to conduct research, provide technology transfer and promote steel-intensive solutions in the marketplace.

WHAT:

The company's press conference and steel company exhibits showcasing steel solutions to help automaker meet 54.5 by 2025 at the 2014 North American International Auto Show.

At Tuesday's press conference, Lawrence W. Kavanagh, president of SMDI, and JoAnna Abrams, CEO of MindClick Global a leader in supply chain sustainability performance solutions, will unveil findings from its U.S. Truck & SUV Market Study regarding the consumer perception of steel in automobiles.

Executives from SMDI and its steel companies will be on hand for one-on-one interviews after the press conference, as well as throughout press days, to discuss how new steels can help automakers meet their lightweighting goals, while also offering advantages over other materials in safety, sustainability and cost.
