Telebras has inked a deal to provide voice, data and image services to the labor ministry. The BRL 63 million-real contract signed on March 23, 2017 represents another setback for private carriers, who expected to increase their work with the public sector under President Michel Temer's government. The state-owned telco benefitted from a 2013 decree issued by ex-president Dilma Rousseff in the aftermath of the US espionage scandal. It required that sensitive national data should be limited to national networks. Telebras will interconnect the ministry's offices across the country during the next 12 months. The contract could be extended for up to five years.
