SunCoke Energy, Inc. Announces Chief Executive Officer Changes, Effective from May 15, 2024

SunCoke Energy, Inc. announced that Michael G. Rippey intends to retire as Chief Executive Officer on May 15, 2024. The Board has unanimously appointed Katherine T. Gates to succeed Mr. Rippey as CEO effective May 15, 2024. Ms. Gates will retain her current position as President, serving as both President and CEO upon her promotion, and she will continue to serve as a member of the Board.
Upon his retirement, it is anticipated that Mr. Rippey will serve as an advisor to the Company, pursuant to an advisory agreement. The Board announced Katherine?s promotion to Chief Executive Officer as the result of a deliberate and well-executed succession planning process. Katherine?s executive experience for more than a decade at SunCoke, provides the Board with valuable expertise regarding operations, commercial, strategic, legal and EHS matters.
She is a successful leader with a strong execution orientation. She has the highest integrity and brings great energy to all she does.
SunCoke Energy, Inc. is an independent producer of coke. The Companyâs segments include Domestic Coke, Brazil Coke, and Logistics. The Domestic Coke segment consists of coke making facilities and heat recovery operations at its Jewell, Indiana Harbor, Haverhill, Granite City and Middletown plants. The Brazil segment consists of coke making operations located in Vitoria, Brazil, where it operates the ArcelorMittal Brazil coke making facility for a Brazilian subsidiary of ArcelorMittal S.A. The Logistics segment consists of Convent Marine Terminal (CMT), Kanawha River Terminal (KRT) and SunCoke Lake Terminal (Lake Terminal). Its terminals act as intermediaries between its customers and end users by providing transloading and mixing services. CMT is located in Convent, Louisiana, with access to seaborne markets for coal and other industrial materials. The terminal provides loading and unloading services and has direct rail access.
