Eiffage announced yesterday that the consortium comprising Eiffage Métal, leader of the consortium, and Eiffage Construction, has won the contract awarded by STMicroelectronics to extend its Crolles production site.

The Crolles site already accounts for 50% of STMicroelectronics' production of electronic chips. STMicroelectronics intends to use the Crolles site to double its production capacity in Europe over the next few years, in order to guarantee the supply of semiconductors to the European market.

The project involves the construction of a new high-tech production unit using an innovative process of modular slice expansion. A three-storey technical center (CUB), connected to the building by footbridges, is also planned.

Work on the 24-month project began 4 months ago, according to Eiffage.
