WHAT:     As part of the newest phase of Starbucks and Square's partnership and to support small business growth, Starbucks today began selling Square Mobile Card Readers in 7,000 company-operated Starbucks stores across the United States. Square's Mobile Card Reader with the free app, Square Register, enables anyone to easily accept credit cards so individuals and businesses can connect with customers anywhere their business takes them.

More than two-thirds of the 27 million small businesses in the U.S. currently do not accept credit or debit cards, in large part because of the expensive interchange fees associated with payment processing, cumbersome application process and required credit checks. Square enables merchants of any size - from sole proprietors to national retailers - to accept credit and debit cards. The Square Mobile Card Reader plugs into the headphone jack of an iPhone, iPad or Android device. More than three million individuals and businesses can accept credit and debit cards with Square. In Starbucks stores, Square's Mobile Card Readers sell for $10 with a $10 rebate upon sign-up for new users.

The Square Mobile Card Readers are not required to make purchases at Starbucks store locations, as Starbucks accepts mobile payments using Square Wallet, which can be downloaded to your Android or iOS device.
