01 - The first Sporting-FC Porto National Championship meeting came in the 1938/1939 season and finished in a 4-4 draw. On that day in Estádio do Lumiar, the 12th of March 1939, the Lions managed to come back from 1-4 down at halftime. The Sporting goals were scored by Aníbal Paciência, a brace from Fernando Peyroteo and an own goal from Porto's Sacadura.

02 - Sporting's most notable difference over the northern Portuguese heavy weights came on the 24th of January 1960, in the form of a 6-1 win. Curiously, every goal was scored by a South American: the forwards Vadinho (3) and Faustino (2), along with the Peruvian midfielder Seminário.

03 - The most common result between the two giants in National Championship games is 2-1 (occurring on 10 occasions), last occurring on the 9th of April 1988, on matchday 29. The Sporting strikes of the day were scored by Paulinho, Cascavel and Mário Jorge.

04 - One 'classic' that Sporting's fans are sure to remember came in the 1999/2000 season. On matchday 26, being played on the 18th of March 2000, Sporting secured a 2-0 win following strikes from André Cruz and Acosta. Sporting moved into top spot that day and led the pack through the rest of the season, going on to win their 17th title.

05 - In the new Estádio José Alvalade, Sporting and FC Porto have already played eight times in the National Champions. The Lions have won three, drawn three and lost just two. The last win came on the 28th of February 2010, under the then Sporting coach, Carlos Carvalhal. Yannick, Izmailov and Miguel Veloso were all on target in a 3-0 win.

06 - The last Sporting-FC Porto National Championship game was played on the 27th of November, 2010, on matchday 12; Jaime Valdés and Radamel Falcão finding the back of the net in a 1-1 draw.

07 - Of the 73 games already played between the two in the National Championship, Sporting has won 39, drawn 15 and lost 19. In terms of goals, the Lions have scored 134 and conceded only 77.

08 - Fernando Peyroteo and Manuel Vasques are the fixture's top scorers, with 10 each. Jesus Correia follows in second with seven.

09 - In the district of Porto, Sporting has no fewer than 11 Supporters' Clubs, four Affiliates and one Delegation (number 23 of Sporting Clube de Portugal, named Solar do Norte).
