COOK FARMS - Jereamy Cook

'I enjoy farming because it's liberating, it's freedom. We are feeding America. If it wasn't for farmers, there wouldn't be any food. Farming is important to provide food for America.'

- Jereamy Cook, Tyler Production Pullet Grower -

After 20 years of manufacturing mobile homes, Jereamy Cook was ready for a career change, and he had to look no further than the poultry industry. Just as Sanderson Farms was expanding our operations into Tyler, Texas, Cook was looking for a simpler way of life, and he quickly found that in poultry farming.

Cook decided to jump in head first by building a three-house pullet farm in Como, Texas, where he now raises pullets and hay crops. 'I enjoy growing for Sanderson Farms because it allows me the freedom of taking care of my farm, being outside and enjoying the sunshine or whatever weather the day brings,' said Cook. 'It's a different lifestyle from what I was used to for the last 20 years and it makes me happy.'

Poultry farming is rewarding to Cook because it allows him to feed families just like his own all across the nation. 'I enjoy farming because it's liberating, it's freedom,' said Cook. 'We are feeding America. If it wasn't for farmers, there wouldn't be any food. Farming is important to provide food for America.'

In fact, Cook hopes to inspire others to become farmers because he believes that while the work is challenging, it makes a significant impact on the world. 'The most rewarding aspect of growing chickens is being able to see an end result from your work,' said Cook.

Doing homework has been the secret to Cook's own success over the past several years as poultry farming requires attention to many details, as he quickly learned. 'Ensuring that our birds have the perfect environment includes proper food, water, lighting, ventilation and temperature to make them the healthiest birds they can be,' said Cook.

Based on his results, it appears that Cook has paid attention to the right details in his short poultry farming career. 'Jereamy provides the Tyler Production division with high quality pullets that help maximize the birds' performance,' said Mike Peoples, breeder-hatchery manager for Sanderson Farms' Tyler, Texas production division. 'His attention to detail and commitment to our program makes the Cook Farm a successful farm for our company.'
