RSC Energia: results of participation in Korolev's Readings

January 30, 2017

Participants of RSC Energia made successful presentations at the plenary and splinter sessions of the 41st Academic Readings in Cosmonautics, which were held at Bauman Moscow State Technical University (MSTU), Moscow during the period of January 24 through 27.

Discussed at the forum were the scientific legacy of space exploration pioneers and schools of design in rocket and space industry, fundamental problems of space science and the status of its specific areas, studies in history of space science and technology, humanitarian aspects of space flight, etc.

Scientists, engineers, designers and other specialists from RSC Energia presented many papers concerning various aspects of growth in the rocket and space industry, development of advanced hardware, new approaches to trajectory support of space missions and other important matters.

In particular, instructor-cosmonaut-tester, 1st Class, the head of a scientific and technical center at RSC Energia Alexander Kaleri in his presentation told about the role of cosmonaut-engineers in the expanding program of manned spaceflight. Pilot-cosmonaut, advisor to the general designer of RSC Energia Alexander Aleksandrov presented to the participants in the readings the history of the beginnings of the Group for the Study of Reactive Motion, which laid the foundations of our country's rocket industry. A specialist from RSC Energia Alexander Spirin made a presentation on the subject of thermal control in the Service Module (SM) during the periods of 'solar orbits'.

Robust and dynamic development of the industry is impossible without effective efforts to bring in young talents, and that was why career guidance offered by Roscosmos companies became a separate subject of the Readings.

Of much interest to the audience was the presentation of the chief specialist for personnel training at RSC Energia Dmitry Kalinkin 'International Space Olympiad as an Efficient Tool of Training for the Industry'.

He told about the key objectives of the Olympiad - studying the history and raising the public awareness of the achievements of spaceflight in our country and abroad, stimulating interest among high-school students in aerospace professions, as well as addressing the problems of training specialists in international cooperation in space.

The speaker pointed out that an important feature of the International Space Olympiad distinguishing it from academic Olympiads on various subjects is compulsory preparation, competitive selection, and review of creative works by schoolchildren on space-related subjects.

The 41st Academic Readings in Cosmonautics are dedicated to the memory of Academician Sergei Korolev and our country's other outstanding scientists - pioneers of space exploration. The organizing committee is headed by the general designer of RSC Energia, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Yevgeni Mikrin. The co-chairman of the organizing committee is the general director of the State Corporation Roskosmos Igor Komarov, and deputy chairmen are: academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Victor Sadovnichi; academician of RAS Igor Fedorov; rector of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University, academician of RAS Anatoli Alexandrov and academic secretary - doctor of engineering science Vera Mayorova.

The list of participants in the Readings includes Department of Power Generation, Engineering, Mechanics and Control Processes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, N.E.Bauman Moscow State Technical University (National Research University), S.P.Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energia, Academician V.P.Glushko NPO Energomash, AO VPK NPO Mashinostroyeniya, Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center, Central Research Institute for Machine-building (TsNIIMash), M.V.Keldysh Research Center, Keldysh Institute for Applied Mathematics of the Russain Academy of Sciences, S.I.
