The History of Lonsum

History of Lonsum began in 1906 with small scale of tobacco and coffee plantations near Medan, northern Sumatra. Starting from a small plantation, the company then developed into one of the top agribusiness company, has approximately 90,000 hectares of oil palm, rubber, tea and cocoa which embedded in the four largest islands of Indonesia.

At its early stage, the company diversified into rubber, tea and cocoa crops. At the beginning of Indonesian independence era, Lonsum was focused on rubber crop, which then converted into oil palm in 1980s. At the end of this decade, oil palm replaced rubber as the main crop of the company.

Lonsum has 37 main estates and 14 plasma plantations in Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan and Sulawesi. Estate management is conducted by applying the progress of research and development, the expertise of agro-management as well as the skillful and professional human resources. Lonsum business areas include nursery preparation, planting, harvesting, processing and selling of products of palm oil, rubber, cocoa and tea. In agroindustry, Lonsum known as a producer of high quality of oil palm and cocoa seeds. The high-tech business is a major key to drive the growth of the company.

Lonsum widely known in 1996 and listed on the Jakarta Stock Exchange and Surabaya. In October 2007, Indofood Agri Resources Ltd (a subsidiary of PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk) became the majority shareholder through its Indonesian subsidiary, PT Salim Ivomas Primary.
