PGE Employee Giving Campaign raises $1.65 million
Nearly 1,000 organizations receive donations as employees give to their favorites

PORTLAND, Ore. - During the season of giving, the employees and retirees of Portland General Electric are helping to make a difference for nearly 1,000 charitable organizations and schools in their community. It's all part of PGE's annual Employee Giving Campaign, which encourages employees and retirees to support their favorite causes by providing a 50 percent company match for each dollar they pledge. A total of $1.65 million was raised this year.

"We are proud of the generosity of our PGE employees and retirees, and their support of the communities where they live and work," said Jim Piro, PGE President and CEO. "Whether by volunteering their time throughout the year or by pledging donations now, they are helping to strengthen the good work of many very important organizations that serve our community."

Work for Arttopped the list of 2013 recipients with donations totaling more than $83,000 to help support more than 100 arts and culture organizations throughout the region.

The nonprofit supports programs such as Playwrite, Inc., an organization that matches at-risk youth together with Oregon theater professionals to create original plays that offer a powerful way for their voices to be heard. Also supported through Work for Art are programs like Children's Healing Art Project, which brings the healing power of art to children in crisis; and Ethos, a center that works to bring music education to at-risk youth across Oregon.

Other top recipients for this year's Employee Giving Campaign include Oregon Food Bank, OSU Foundation, Doernbecher Children's Hospital and Providence Portland Medical Foundation, Oregon Public Broadcasting and the Oregon Burn Center.

During the annual Employee Giving Campaign, PGE's 2,600 employees and more than 1,000 retirees can designate any charitable nonprofit or accredited school to receive their pledges. Since the company match program began in 1999, PGE and its employees and retirees have contributed more than $17.45 million to their communities. In addition to donating money to their favorite organizations, PGE employees and retirees are expected to log more than 30,000 volunteer hours with their favorite nonprofit organizations in 2013.
