Polarean shares soar on University of Alabama deal for Xenon MRI

(Alliance News) - Polarean Imaging PLC on Friday said it has received its second de novo order for a new Xenon MRI system from the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital in the US.

Shares in Polarean were up 37% at 4.72 pence each in London on Friday morning.

The London-based medical imaging technology developer said it expects to install the new system later this year and will collaborate "closely" with the hospital team, as it does with its existing clinical sites, to develop a "strong" Xenon MRI programme.

This programme will support clinical imaging, NIH-funded research, and pharmaceutical-sponsored trials, Polarean said, aligning with its commitment to advancing medical research and patient care.

Polarean Imaging PLC is a medical-imaging technology company, with an investigational drug-device combination product for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The Company and its subsidiary company operate as investigational drug-device combination companies operating in the high-resolution medical imaging research space. The Company develops equipment that enables existing MRI systems to achieve an improved level of pulmonary functional imaging and specializes in the use of hyperpolarized xenon gas (129Xe) as an imaging agent to visualize ventilation. 129Xe gas is being studied for visualization of gas exchange regionally in the smallest airways of the lungs, across the alveolar tissue membrane, and into the pulmonary bloodstream.
