Waste bins made entirely with sugarcane-based polyethylene
for Rio de Janeiro
A few weeks before the United Nations' Rio+20 Conference on
Sustainable Development scheduled for Rio de Janeiro on 20-22
June, the prominent Brazilian city has signed a contract with
Plastic Omnium for wheeled household waste containers.
For Plastic Omnium, this is the first large contract for its
new 100% Green Made wheeled containers, which were premiered
at the Salon Pollutec trade show in Lyon just over a year
ago. The bins are made entirely with plant-based polyethylene
derived from non alimentary sugarcane.
The contract, which is for an initial order of 50,000
240-liter bins, reflects Rio de Janeiro's respect for Plastic
Omnium's expertise and ability to use local raw materials
that are entirely environmentally friendly. As part of an
exclusive agreement with a Brazilian supplier, the material
