MAKING PRODUCT FROM WASTE IN ZHANGJIAGANG

This sustainability story is one of many that shows how Olin products, technologies, ideas, and people are having a positive impact on our world.

SUSTAINABILITY CHALLENGE

  1. After transporting Liquid Epoxy Resin (LER) by ship from the US to Olin's site in Zhangjiagang, China, emptied tanks are cleaned with water.
  1. The cleaning water was collected and brought to incineration as solid hazardous waste.

OLIN'S SOLUTION

  1. Olin collects the cleaning water in containers in which the water and the LER settle.
  1. After settlement, the water is pumped out and can be treated as general wastewater.
  1. The remaining bottom residual LER is recycled into pure raw material for new products.

DID YOU KNOW?

POSITIVE IMPACT

  1. Olin has planned to eliminate 100% of hazardous waste from tank washing, avoiding more than 21 MT (based on 2023) of total waste.
  1. Almost 19 MT of raw material will then be recycled and used for new epoxy products.

Olin reduced the withdrawal of fresh water for production by 33% worldwide since 2018.
