LEXINGTON, Ky., Jan. 26, 2018 - Neogen Corporation announced today that an independent study has proven its Synergize® Disinfectant-Cleaner to be effective against the virus that causes foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in cattle, pigs, sheep, and other livestock.

The validation study was conducted by the prestigious Pirbright Institute, an England-based research institution dedicated to the study of infectious diseases in farm animals. This most recent validation against FMD adds to the list of bacteria, fungi, and viruses Synergize has now been proven effective against, a list that also includes E. coli, avian influenza, Aspergillus fumigatus, porcine epidemic diarrhea virus, PRRS, and canine parvovirus.

'FMD continues to be a global concern, having caused millions of dollars of loss to animal agriculture businesses worldwide,' said Neogen's Dr. Joseph Lyman, director of the company's animal safety professional services and product development. 'Preventing FMD from entering the United States is critical to the financial health of our animal industries. Having a tool that effectively combats the spread of FMD is vital to our biosecurity efforts.'

Synergize is a non-corrosive, combination quaternary ammonium and glutaraldehyde disinfectant-cleaner that kills viruses, fungi, and both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. It can be applied by mechanical sprayer, fogging or soaking, and can be used in boot baths and truck washes.

Neogen's offerings include alkaline, neutral and acidic, as well as foaming and non-foaming cleaners.
