Paul Vlissidis, Technical Director, NCC Group comments on the attack:

"Due to the continued rise of affordable bandwidth, the risk of a DDoS attack is present for organisations in any sector. Arguably, on top of traditional cyber criminals, this risk is increased in those industries that serve technically savvy youngsters who may have access to such capabilities and not think or even care about the consequences.

We would argue that organisations that operate either primarily or substantially in an online capacity need to factor DDoS into their business continuity plans as part of good business governance. This is especially true as a successful DDoS will have a direct revenue impact.

This planning coupled with active defences, testing and contingencies can help these organisations understand the impact, how to respond and the extent to which they can mitigate, whilst managing associated costs.
