MSCI Rating Upgrades MONETA's
Sustainability Rating to AA, Placing It Among
the World's Elite
Prague, 12 October 2021
MSCI, one of the oldest stock indices in the world, has upgraded the bank's rating from the current A to AA. MONETA Money Bank has thus become one of the top 25% of companies in the world that have achieved the "double A" rating. This global index includes listed companies in 23 of the most advanced countries across all sectors.
According to the official rationale, the rating upgrade is mainly due to MONETA's significant improvements in its corporate governance framework, the bank's emphasis on testing the bank's cybersecurity and systems, transparency, as well as effective risk mitigation mechanisms and precisely articulated anti- money laundering and anti-bribery policies. The Index also praised the work of the independent remuneration committee, the existence of an ombudsman for clients and employees, and fair policies on advertising and consumer credit programs in relation to responsible lending.
"The fact that we have made it into the elite group of the best is both extremely gratifying and a commitment. Safety, fairness and transparency is a standard we want to continue to work towards. The rating that we have currently received reassures us that we are on the right track, however, our goal remains to obtain a AAA rating in the medium term," said Tomáš Spurný, Chairman of the Management Board of MONETA Money Bank.
MONETA Money Bank has been part of the MSCI index rating since 2017, when it was rated BB. The index reassessed its perception of the bank's activities in 2019 to BBB, and then last autumn it raised its rating to A. A total of 201 companies from 23 countries are rated in the MSCI index; only 26% of them have a higher rating - AA, and only 3% of all rated companies have the highest rating - AAA. It is this highest category that starts with a score of 8.571; MONETA was rated with a final score of 8.4 in the current evaluation.
