Ultra-Thin Electrodeposited Copper Foil with Carrier

Work to increase production capacity of Malaysian plant completed in November and accelerate development of new products and technologies -

Mitsui Mining & Smelting Co., Ltd. (President: Keiji Nishida; "Mitsui Kinzoku," hereinafter) is pleased to announce today that work to increase the capacity for producing the ultra-thin electrodeposited copper foil with carrier MicroThinTM has completed and the plant operation has started.

The MicroThinTM , ultra-thin electrodeposited copper foil with carrier, is a product of Mitsui Kinzoku that incorporates a copper foil of thickness 1.5 μm to 5 μm suitable for forming fine circuits and multiple types of fine-roughening processes. The product can be shipped in the form of wide rolls and is highly stable in terms of carrier peel strength. As such, it is capable of helping customers improve productivity and process yield, earning it an excellent reputation.

Mitsui Kinzoku had moved ahead with work for increasing the production capacity for ultra-thin copper foil with carrier MicroThinTM at its plant in Malaysia (NEWS RELEASE dated November 14, 2017). Installation of the equipment was completed in November 2018 as initially planned, and operations commenced in December.

As a result of the increased production capacity, the capacity for producing MicroThinTM at the plant will increase from the current 1.8 million m2 to 2.4 million m2. This will increase Mitsui Kinzoku's total production capacity from 3.3 million m2 to 3.9 million m2, paving the way for stable supply to meet growing demand.

In addition, with the production capacity increase completed, various tests for next-generation MicroThinTM series products can be implemented more flexible on actual line, and Mitsui Kinzoku will accelerate its activity to develop new products and new technologies.

Under its slogan of Material Intelligence, Mitsui Kinzoku will be seeking to ensure stable quality andsufficient supply to customers. Going forward, it will prepare a system for supplying products for new applications, maintain and improve its technical response and development capabilities, and seek to work more closely with customers.
