London, Jan 19 (EFE).- Virgil Van Dijk and Mo Salah scored goals on Sunday for Liverpool, which rolled to a 2-0 win over Manchester United and stayed on track for its first Premier League title in 30 years.

"I'm very happy for the team, we'll enjoy the moment ... We just need to focus on each game, the only way you win the Premier League is by going game by game," Salah said in a Twitter post.

Van Dijk, a Dutch defender, scored in the 14th minute, giving Liverpool and early 1-0 lead, while Salah sealed the victory with a goal in the 93rd minute.

"I enjoyed the game a lot. I would have preferred we're 2, 3, 4 -0 up after 60 minutes - good for nerves," Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp said.

Liverpool, the English league's leader, now has a 16-point lead in the standings over the No. 2 club, Manchester City, which blew an opportunity to beat Crystal Palace earlier this weekend.

On Saturday, Manchester City appeared to have earned a come-from-behind home victory against Crystal Palace, but an own-goal by Fernandinho just before stoppage time left the teams knotted at 2-2 at the final whistle.

Liverpool appears to be on its way to running away with the Premier League crown, but Klopp said the club was taking it one match at a time.

"I have no idea whether we will be caught or not, I don't care. First and foremost it's the Premier League. We play Wolves on Thursday, it's our next exceptional challenge. I don't have enough space in my brain to contemplate anything else," Klopp said.

Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea made several excellent saves, preventing Liverpool from putting more points on the scoreboard against Man United early in the match.

Salah, however, nailed the goal that ensured victory for Liverpool, with the Egyptian star beating De Gea with a shot to the back of the net on an assist from Alisson.

Fifth-place Manchester United fought hard, but it was unable to hand the Reds their first loss of 2019-2020 season.

"The players gave us everything. Today, we hung on a bit at the start of second half, but the last 25-30 minutes we pressed them and pushed them back. I'm disappointed with conceding from a corner and with the last kick - but very many positives," Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said.

After the match, Liverpool fans expreesed their feelings, singing that their club was going to win the Premier League.

"They can sing that, they have sung that a couple of times in the past I think. l have no problem with that. Everyone should celebrate the situation, apart from us. Nothing has changed, we have the same situation plus three points. I will tell you immediately the moment if it feels different, at the moment it doesn't," Klopp said.

Liverpool holds the top spot in the Premier League standings, with 64 points; Man City is in second place, with 48 points; Leicester is in third place, with 45 points; Chelsea is in fourth place, with 39 points; and Manchester United is in fifth place, with 34 points. EFE
