Physical examination in general, including checking height, weight, blood pressure, and other vital functions of the body to assess overall physical condition.
Vision tests measure visual acuity, the ability to distinguish colors and depth perception, all of which are crucial for navigation and flight operations.
Hearing tests ensure flight crew can hear important communications and warnings during flight.
Heart Health Evaluation (Electrocardiogram) and other tests are done to detect heart problems.
Spirometry test to evaluate lung performance.
Laboratory tests, including blood and urine tests to check kidney function, liver, and other health indicators.
Mental Health Evaluation, analyzing the psychological condition of flight crew, including an assessment of stress, depression, or anxiety disorders that can affect performance while flying.
Neurological examination, focusing on assessing nerve function and motor abilities.
Pre-Flight Examination While at the Airport by a Medical Team
Before carrying out each flight, the flight crew must undergo a medical examination by a medical team in the flight operations room (flight opeations) of the airport. The objectives of the inspection to ensure the crew are on duty in top condition, including:
General Physical Condition Examination, consisting of checking blood pressure, signs of fatigue, the influence of alcohol or drugs, and other general health conditions.
Evaluation of Anxiety or Stress Levels, through a short dialogue assessing the mental and emotional state of the flight crew before flying.
