LG Chem begins to collaborate with Korea University in developing eco-friendly materials technology.

On February 17th, LG Chem said that Hak Cheol Shin, CEO of LG Chem, and Jin Taek Chung, President of Korea University signed the MOU on 'Joint R&D of eco-friendly materials.' at Korea University's main building located in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul.

Through the MOU, both entities plan on promoting joint research on ▲ biodegradable plastic materials ▲ high-efficiency waste plastic recycling process ▲ next-generation mattery materials.

In particular, the research will focus on securing eco-friendly source technologies such as plastic materials capable of natural decomposition in the ocean by using natural materials.

To do so, both entities will establish 'LG Chem-Korea University Eco-Friendly Materials Industry-Academic Cooperation Center' under College of Engineering, Korea University. Along with R&D exchange sessions and mutual advisory activities, they will further promote a customized training support programs to nurture talents such as selecting industry-academic scholars.

By 2025, LG Chem plans to invest 10 trillion KRW to foster its new growth engines such as ▲ eco-friendly materials ▲ battery materials ▲ bio. Through its collaboration with Korea University, the Company expects to accelerate securing and commercializing the source technology.

Meanwhile, Korea University appointed LG Chem as a KU Crimson Company, the university's family company program. Through its appointment, LG Chem will receive the highest level of close industry-academic support from the university.

Jin Take Chung, President of Korea University, mentioned that "It sure is a meaningful day to sign the MOU on our research collaboration and appointing LG Chem as KU Crimson Company, a family company of our university," and added "Through the establishment of our industry-academic cooperation center, I look forward to continuing progressive exchanges between the two entities and hope the center will serve as an opportunity for mutual development."
