In August 2016, Konecranes received an order for two waste-to-energy (WTE) cranes from French engineering company Constructions industrielles de la Méditerranée S.A. (CNIM). Konecranes has previously delivered several WTE refuse cranes to CNIM in France, UK and Eastern Europe. The recently ordered WTE-cranes will be installed in end-customer Wheelabrator Technologies' WTE facility being constructed in Kemsley, UK. Crane delivery is scheduled for the first quarter 2018.

Wheelabrator Kemsley is a combined heat and power facility which will generate 43 MW of sustainable electricity to power UK homes and businesses. The plant will also provide valuable steam heat to the adjacent Kemsley Paper Mill. Wheelabrator expects plant operations to begin in 2019.

'We are very pleased to be able to continue our cooperation with CNIM,' says Joseph Botros, Director and Head of Waste-to-energy industry. 'Our cranes' performance capabilities with proven solutions and Konecranes' local presence in the area were among the key factors in the customer's decision-making.'

The two Konecranes WTE cranes will have a lifting capacity of 25 tons each. The fully automated cranes, equipped with Konecranes' latest main user interface and diagnostics capabilities, will allow our customer to fully track the cranes and their performance. The cranes will also include Konecranes standard features like Protected Areas with zone control, Sway Control, and DynAReg for regenerative braking.

Wheelabrator is the second largest US energy-from-waste business, and is an industry leader in the conversion of everyday residential and business waste into clean energy.

CNIM Group develops, designs and produces turnkey industrial solutions with high technological content and provides expertise, services and operations in the areas of the environment, energy, defence and industry.
