KLA-Tencor Corporation announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended December 31, 2012. For the quarter, the company reported total revenues were $673 million against $642.48 million a year ago. Income from operations was $153.35 million against $159.46 million a year ago. Income before income taxes was $144.87 million against $146.91 million a year ago. Net income was $106.63 million against $110.8 million a year ago. Diluted earnings per share were $0.63 against $0.66 a year ago. Non-GAAP net income was $105.97 million against $121.87 million a year ago. Non-GAAP diluted earnings per share were $0.63 against $0.72 a year ago.
For the six months, the company reported total revenues were $1,393.72 million against $1,438.96 million a year ago. Income from operations was $339.8 million against $413.75 million a year ago. Income before income taxes was $321.42 million against $394.17 million a year ago. Net income was $242 million against $302.79 million a year ago. Diluted earnings per share were $1.43 against $1.78 a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was $77.44 million against $187.23 million a year ago. Capital expenditure, net was $17.09 million against $14.92 million a year ago. Non-GAAP net income was $248.37 million against $320.12 million a year ago. Non-GAAP diluted earnings per share were $1.46 against $1.89 a year ago.
KLA Corporation is one of the world leaders in the design, production and marketing of control and improvement procedures for semiconductor production processes. Net sales break down by family of products and services as follows:
- inspection systems (41.3%): for the detection, counting, classification and characterization of defects linked to the manufacture of silicon wafers and semiconductors;
- metrology and extreme ultraviolet lithography systems (26.6%): for the control of lithography, coating, and engraving processes;
- services (20.2%): consulting, technical assistance, installation, maintenance, etc.;
- advanced vacuum deposition and etching process tools (4.7%);
- printed circuit board, display and electronic component inspection systems (3.6%);
- other (3.6%): primarily defect analysis equipment and software.
Net sales are distributed geographically as follows: North America (12%), China (27.3%), Taiwan (23.8%), Korea (18%), Japan (8.4%), Europe and Israel (6.5%) and Asia (4%).
