About the training organized by Climate Bond Initiatives with the support of the

International Finance Corporation for Kazakh issuers

As part of the Agreement on cooperation in the field of joint development of ESG standards and development of "green" financing in Kazakhstan, signed in April of this year between the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market (hereinafter - the Agency) and the International Finance Corporation (hereinafter - the IFC), a two-day training was held on June 21-22, 2022 for Kazakh issuers on themes of issuing environmental, social and sustainable bonds (Deep Dive Green, Social, and Sustainability (GSS) Bonds Issuance process).

This training is the core element of REGIO TA Program (Real Economy Green Investment Opportunity Technical Assistance Program) - a program of funding green projects in the real sector of the economy, which is being implemented by IFC in partnership with Climate Bond Initiatives (CBI), HSBC Global asset Management and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Kazakhstan Stock Exchange JSC (KASE) acted as a training platform for 35 largest companies of the real sector (in the field of oil and gas, solar energy, electricity, nuclear energy, etc.) interested in issuing GSS bonds.

The GSS Bond Issuing Deep Dive Course covered the practical aspects of issuing GSS bonds. Existing requirements for the issuance of green bonds (from the preparation of an issue prospectus to the redemption of bonds), various schemes for issuing green bonds, including climate and green bond standards, taxonomy of climate bonds, etc., were considered in detail.

Pavel Afanassiev, Director of the Securities Market Department of the Agency, and Yekaterina Benjamin, Head of the IFC Representative Office in Kazakhstan, delivered a welcoming speech. They noted the importance of this kind of training for Kazakh issuers, which helps to raise awareness of the possibilities of financing sustainable projects in Kazakhstan.

The Agency and IFC plan to continue conducting events aimed at encouraging private sector companies to enter the green finance market and build their capacity in the field of sustainable development.
