Jacobs Engineering Group has secured an infrastructure design contract from the UAE-based Arada Developments for Aljada, a mixed-use project in Sharjah, UAE. The latest order is part of the overall AED 1.2 billion($326.7 million) infrastructure package for Aljada, which is touted to be Sharjah's largest ever mixed-use project upon completion. Under the contract, Jacobs will be responsible for the delivery of infrastructure for the project, including roads, water, power and drainage. It will also ensure the full integration with the overall masterplan. With a sales value of AED 24 billion ($6.5), the 24 million ft2 project has been unveiled by HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi in September 2017. Located on the last major plot of undeveloped land in Sharjah, Aljada includes retail, leisure and entertainment spaces, along with various residential and commercial offerings. Furthermore, the Aljada masterplan will feature walkability and wide green spaces. The project will be delivered in phases starting in 2019. Work on Aljada will commence in the first quarter of 2018 and the overall project is anticipated to be completed by 2025.Earlier this year, Arada Developments secured an AED 1 billion($272.2 million) Islamic financing facility from two UAE banks, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank and Dubai Islamic Bank, to fund the development of Aljada.
