MEDIA RELEASE: GAS MARKET UPDATE, APRIL 2023

• IGX TRADES 1.79 MILLION MMBTU (45 MMSCM) IN APRIL'23, GROWTH OF 215% YoY
• RS 1,075 /$13.1/MMBTU PER MMBTU - AVG. PRICE FOR GAS DELIVERIES DURING THE MONTH (EXCLUDING CEILING PRICE GAS)
• GIXI WAS $13.1/MMBTU, LOWER 8% MoM
• TOTAL 74 TRADES EXECUTED DURING THE MONTH

New Delhi, Thursday, 4 May 2023:

The Indian Gas Exchange (IGX) traded 1,790,700 MMBtu (~45 MMSCM/1.5 MMSCMD) gas volume in April 2023, registering 215% YoY growth from 568,050 MMBtu traded in April'22. The volumes declined by 68% MoM basis due to decrease in spot requirement during the month on account of increase in long term supplies.

Total 74 trades were executed during the month. The maximum number of trades executed in Monthly contracts was 38, followed by Daily & Fortnightly contracts of 22 and 9 trades respectively.

Most active delivery point for free market gas was Hazira and domestic ceiling price gas was traded at Gadimoga. Other trading delivery points were Dahej, Ankot, Suvali, Mhaskal.

During the month, the Exchange traded gas flows was 4,829,800 MMBtu (~4 MMSCMD).

GIXI (Gas Index of India) for April 2023 was Rs 1,075 /$14 per MMBtu down by 8% last month. Different spot gas benchmark prices recorded were: HH at ~$2.4/MMBtu, TTF at ~$14 /MMBtu, whereas LNG benchmark indices were: WIM ~13.5 $/MMBtu.

IGX traded total 903,650 MMBtu domestic ceiling price gas, 785,850 at the ceiling price of $12.46/MMBtu and 117,800 MMBtu below ceiling price at $11.5 during the month complying with MoPNG notification dated 13.01.2023. Priority sector allocation in Ceiling Price gas were, CGD (CNG + PNG) - 45% and others (Petrochemical, Marketers) - 55%.
