Generac Power Systems was granted a $200 million contract from the Energy Department to install renewable energy and battery storage systems for low-income communities in Puerto Rico.

Generac and local project affiliates will facilitate the installation of residential solar and battery storage systems to the communities, which are often hit hardest by long and frequent outages, the company said. Installations are expected to begin next month.

Generac said it will work with local companies that will help lead workforce development and training efforts, and focus on providing jobs for residents.

The award is part of the DOE's $1B Puerto Rico Energy Resilience Fund.
