Fortescue Metals Group Ltd. announced that the former head of Australia's national science agency, Larry Marshall, has been appointed to the Fortescue Board as a Non-Executive Director. Dr Marshall is a highly experienced scientist, investor and business leader whose extraordinary skills will complement those of the Fortescue Board. Dr Marshall was Chief Executive of the CSIRO from 2015 to June 2023, making him the national science agency?s longest serving Chief Executive in the past 50 years.

He led a transformation that resulted in the CSIRO?s first period of growth in three decades, significantly increasing the value delivered to stakeholders while seeing it named one of the Thomson Reuters Top 25 Global Innovators. Prior to joining the CSIRO, Dr Marshall co-founded and led a number of biotech and venture capital companies and has served on the boards of numerous high-tech companies operating in the US, Australia and China. Dr Marshall is currently the Chair of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham); a board member of the Governing Council of the Australian National University; an adviser for the Australian Government?s Circular Economy Ministerial Advisory Group; and a Committee member of the COVID-19 Vaccines and Treatments for Australia ?

Science and Industry Technical Advisory Group, which provides advice to the Australian Government on the purchasing and manufacturing of COVID-19 vaccines and treatments. Fortescue also announces that long serving Non-Executive Director, Mark Barnaba, will relinquish his role as Lead Independent Director in calendar year 2024, but will continue in the role of Deputy Chairman. A replacement Lead Independent Director will be named at that time.
