One million households switched energy suppliers in the past 12 months. ANWB Energie and Vandebron scored highest on the switching balance. This appears from the National Energy Supplier Benchmark, a large-scale survey by Multiscope among more than 6,400 Dutch people.

14 percent of households plan to switch in the next 12 months. Vattenfall is the largest energy supplier with 18 percent market share.

Almost 1.5 million households purchase electricity and/or gas from Vattenfall. That is 18 percent of all households in the Netherlands. This makes Vattenfall the largest energy supplier in the Netherlands. Eneco (14 percent) and Essent (13 percent) follow in second and third place. Greenchoice supplies energy to 11 percent of Dutch households and Budget Energie to 8 percent.

In the past year, one million households switched energy suppliers. One in ten switchers switched from another party to ANWB Energie, while 4 percent actually left ANWB Energie. This brings the switching balance to 6 percent.

Vandebron with an inflow of 11 percent and an outflow of 5 percent also has a growth of 6 percent. Greenchoice is in third place with a balance of 4 percent. Parties with the largest decrease in number of customers are Eneco, Essent and energiedirect with -6%, -5% and -5% on the balance sheet, respectively.

Over 1.1 million households want to switch energy suppliers in the next 12 months. This amounts to 14 percent of households. Of all households who want to switch, 68 percent do not yet know to which energy supplier.
