Going like the wind: an exhibition about wind power for young and old
On Monday 20 May, the Mayor of Ostend, Bart Tommelein, and Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten inaugurated Going like the wind, an interactive exhibition which is being hosted at Fort Napoleon in Ostend.
The exhibition is a result of a collaboration between the Ostend Tourist Office, Elia Transmission Belgium (ETB), DEME and Jan De Nul, and is based on an accompanying booklet that explains the role played by wind turbines in the generation, transmission and distribution electricity. The exhibition follows the path electricity (or electrons) follows from a wind turbine to power plugs in residential homes, with a key role played by the black-legged kittiwake (as well as nature inclusive design) and the Princess Elisabeth Island.
This interactive exhibition will run from 20 May to 29 September 2024 at Fort Napoleon in Ostend
It highlights the importance of sustainability in relation to the Princess Elisabeth Island project
Designed specifically for children and families, it is the first exhibition of its kind in Belgium

Elia Group SA/NV is the Belgian transmission system operator, transmitting electricity efficiently, reliably and securely from producers to distribution system operators and major industrial users. The group is responsible for importing and exporting electricity from and to neighbouring countries.
Elia Group SA/NV owns the entire Belgian very high voltage grid (150 to 380 kV) and some 94% (ownership and user rights) of the Belgian high-voltage grid (30 to 70 kV). The grid is a key link between electricity markets in northern and southern Europe. It also links Belgian producers and consumers. Belgium's recent investment in interconnection capacity with its neighbours makes it one of the most open and interconnected grids in Europe.
Elia Group SA/NV has recently expanded its activities on a broader European level and, following its acquisition of the German TSO 50Hertz and in cooperation with Industry Funds Management (IFM), is now one of the top five transmission system operators in Europe.
