Elektro is investing nearly BRL 15 million in a smart city initiative in Sao Luis do Paraitinga municipality, in its concession area in southeastern Sao Paulo state. The project aims to create conditions for its customers to use the energy more consciously and manage their own consumption. Under the initiative, Elektro will replace all 6,000 measurers in the region with smart models, offering greater autonomy and communication; install 30 solar panels at residential buildings and new LED street lighting; and upgrade lighting systems at public buildings and at local hospital.

The first phase of the project will be completed by May 2014.
