PITTSBURGH, PA
- Power management company Eaton today announced a new series of reclosers to help utilities support a smarter, more reliable grid. Eaton's Cooper Power series NOVA NX-T reclosers enable the accuracy and distribution system reliability critical to smart grid applications. The solution is designed to enhance performance and reliability while simplifying equipment configuration, installation, operation and control.

'Eaton is building on a legacy of innovation in recloser technology, which includes pioneering the three-phase automatic circuit recloser and solid dielectric vacuum technology of the original NOVA recloser offering,' said Rob Hardin, strategic marketing manager at Eaton. 'As our next generation technology, Eaton's NOVA NX-T recloser is designed to help utilities achieve a more adaptable, reliable and responsive infrastructure.'

To support the sensing performance for a smarter grid, the NOVA NX-T recloser is a fully integrated solution with highly accurate, resistive source-side and optional loadside sensors, offering ±2 percent accuracy across the full rated temperature range.

Helping ensure overall system reliability, the NOVA NX-T recloser protects all sensitive control electronics in an IP43-rated enclosure, while MIL-SPEC twist/lock connectors positively seal out moisture and Eaton's proven epoxy insulation solution withstands extreme temperatures and harsh environments.

The NOVA NX-T recloser is designed to make configuration, installation, operation and control easier. Eaton standard site-ready designs can be configured with integrated sensors, pre-wired arrestors and potential transformers (PTs) to minimize installation time and effort. Additionally, design elements including large reflective 360-degree-viewable position indicators simplify operation. From the ground level, the interrupter position can be easily identified, even on a dark night during inclement weather.

The NOVA NX-T recloser is founded on decades of industry leadership and proven solid epoxy design and vacuum interrupter technology. All key components-from the microprocessor-based control to the integrated resistive voltage sensors, a robust magnetic actuator, the weather-resistant connector system, and the 360-degree position indicator-are purpose built for a smarter grid.
