East Japan Railway Co. will promote its executive vice president Tetsuro Tomita to president on April 1 to succeed Satoshi Seino, who will become chairman. Current chairman Mutsutake Otsuka, 69, will become an advisor. The 60-year-old incoming president, who has expertise in corporate planning, will face tasks such as restoring services disrupted by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami last year. The company is also hoping Tomita's appointment will bring new blood to the leadership as Seino, 64, will have been in the post for six years by April. The company is expected to announce the appointments later.
