Staying productive while working at home is certainly not as easy as it sounds.

Therefore, we started a monthly Microsoft Teams newsletter to help businesses and individuals navigate the platform. The newsletters cover anything related to Teams, ranging from the latest integrations, new features, collaboration tips, and more.

Microsoft Teams: In The News Why Microsoft Teams Is So Much Better Than Zoom And Slack For Collaboration

Microsoft made their name in technology because of one word. Maybe it's oversimplifying a multi-billion dollar company, but the word is integration. Outlook is integrated with Word which is integrated with Teams. Over the years, people have used another word for that (monopoly) but when you are trying to finish a report and you're alone in an office, the integration is outstanding.

Microsoft Teams New 'Offline Experience' Will Improve Messaging Workflow

Teams will soon have a new offline feature that will make messaging slightly more tolerable when your connectivity drops.

Starting in late January, with a rollout expected to be completed by early February, the new 'offline experience' will allow messages in Teams to be sent even when you are not connected to the Internet. In this scenario, messages will be put into a queue for up to 24 hours, and once you establish connectivity, the messages will be sent.

Previously in this same scenario, when trying to send a message, it would say 'failed' instead of going into the message queue. This new feature will now send those messages as long as the device is re-connected within 24hrs.

What's New in Microsoft Teams?

Every month we love to highlight new features recently released for Microsoft Teams. Read over the updates below and check them out for yourself:

Microsoft Teams is adding a History Navigation Menu

The Microsoft Teams client for desktop is a massively complex app and one of the new items in the roadmap for the app is a new navigation feature.

According to Microsoft, the History Menu for Teams desktop clients displays recently visited locations when hovering over the backward and forward navigation options. Using the menu you can quickly jump back to previous locations, making it much easier to quickly get back to nested locations like tabs or documents. The menu is also accessible via a keyboard shortcut.

Microsoft Teams to Improve Search Suggestions with new 'Top Hits' Section

Microsoft is planning to improve the search function in its Teams collaboration platform by adding a new 'Top Hits' section.

This section, powered by Microsoft Search, should significantly speed up the search process in Teams by showing top hits in the results. For instance, if a user searches for the term 'deadline,' Microsoft Teams will intelligently scan other users, chat messages, and shared files to quickly displaying the most relevant suggestions at the top of the search results.

Microsoft Teams Meeting Recap coming soon

Microsoft Announced a Teams Meeting Recap at Microsoft Inspire 2020. With this feature enabled, after a meeting finishes in Microsoft Teams, a recap with the meeting recording, transcript, chat, shared files, and more will be automatically created. The recap can also be accessed in the Outlook calendar by going to the meeting event. In the future, meeting recordings will be automatically stored as files in Microsoft SharePoint so they can be shared easily with others.

The new Approvals app is now generally available in Microsoft Teams

Approvals in Microsoft Teams lets you easily create, manage, and share approvals directly from your hub for teamwork. You can quickly start an approval flow from the same place you send a chat, in a channel conversation, or from the Approvals app itself. Just select an approval type, add details, attach files, and choose approvers. Once submitted, approvers are notified and can review and act on the request.

December 2020 Recap

In case you missed last month's Microsoft Teams Updates, we have a recap just for you:

1. AI Noise Cancellation

Real-time AI noise suppression feature that automatically removes unwelcome background noise during your meetings.

2. Presenter Mode

PowerPoint slides will appear in a new presenter view, which will make it much easier to navigate between slides.

Visit the Microsoft Teams Blog for the full list.

Productivity Tip of the Month Add Custom Tabs

Every new channel is preconfigured with two tabs: Conversations and Files. But users can add custom tabs for other Microsoft 365 tools, websites, and third-party apps, allowing you to perform tasks without switching to a new window.
