Michael Miller named Warden at Crowley County Correctional Facility

Miller brings nearly three decades of experience in criminal justice to the Colorado facility

OLNEY SPRINGS, CO. - CCA, America's leader in partnership corrections, has named Michael Miller as warden of its 1,794 bed in the south eastern Colorado town of Olney Springs. With nearly three decades of experience in criminal justice, Miller brings a diverse perspectiveplenty of expertise to the staffinmates at Crowley County.

"It feels great to be returning to a facility where I spent much of my leadership career as an Assistant Warden," said Miller. "I know most of the employeesnearly all of the department heads who have welcomed me back with open arms, along with members of the local communityour government partners at the Colorado Department of Corrections."

Miller's experience in corrections has been diverse. Over the past 19 years he has supervised state inmate populations in Colorado, WashingtonWyoming. He has also managed federal inmates under a contract with the Federal Bureau of Prisonsmost recently with the U.S. Marshal's Servicedetainees of U.S. ImmigrationCustoms Enforcement.

Miller says a passion for helping others, whether it's an inmate in his care or a need in the community, brings him a great sense of prideaccomplishment.

"I truly believe it is not just our role to keep the community safe," said Miller. "We must offer inmates the opportunity to improve themselves through academicvocational programsparticipate in community activities by serving on boardsgetting involved in local events."

What makes this warden assignment extra special for Miller is a chance to move back home after his most recent assignment in California.

"I was bornraised nearby in La Junta," said Miller. "It is very special that this next chapter of my career will take place in the area I will always call home. Prior to joining CCA in 1996, Miller worked for the Teton County Sheriff's Department in Jackson Hole, Wyomingthe Otero County Sheriff's Department in La Junta, Colorado. He is a level 1 post certified Peace Officer in both states. Miller is a nationally recognized 'Use of Force Instructor Trainer'has conducted training as a staff instructor at the South Eastern Colorado Law Enforcement Training Academy in Trinidad, Colorado.

Millerhis wife Kathy live in Las Animas. He enjoys fishing, watching sports - specifically professional drag racing -likes spending time spoiling his grandchildren. Miller attends the First Church of the Nazarene in La Junta.
