Miners at Colossus Minerals' Serra Pelada gold-platinum project in Brazil's Pará state are expected to resume their working activities on July 24. Workers at the site have gone on strike demanding a larger share in the company's profits, and as a result the company's activities were partially suspended. The miners demanded profits on Serra Pelada's ore exploitation to be equally divided.

Initial reports have said that the contract between Colossus and COOMIGASP states that the cooperative has the right to a 49% share of profits. The company has affirmed the contract is legitimate and is officially recognized by the country's mines and energy ministry MME. After the strike's end, Colossus asked the government and judicial authorities to define at all levels COOMIGASP's role in Serra Pelada's management control.

The company has been doing monthly transfers to the cooperative according to the contract, and has already invested over $500 million in the project, which generates 1,500 direct and indirect jobs in the southeastern region of Pará state.
