WHAT VACUUM IS BEST FOR WOOL CARPET

There are many different options for vacuums out there however when choosing the right vacuum for your carpet, it is important to take a few things into consideration. Check the machine has the following features to ensure it can remove debris/particles from your floor but also does not cause damage to the carpet pile. Here are some features we recommend to look out for when buying a vacuum.

PLAIN SUCTION HEAD

Any vacuum that features a standard carpet brush nozzle is going to be a great option for your carpet as there is a reduced risk of damaging carpet piles when there are no rotating components within the nozzle.

REMOVABLE REVOLVING BRUSH HEAD ATTACHMENT

Vacuum cleaners with rotating brush heads/beater bars may be used occasionally to help reduce fluffing and frizzing and to revitalise flattened areas of cut pile carpets. Over-use of these heads can cause excessive fluffing and premature appearance loss of your carpet. This is why it is important to choose a vacuum with the option to remove this attachment or one with no revolving brush head.

STRONG SUCTION

Choosing a vacuum with strong suction is important, it is safe for your wool carpet and it pulls up soil and dirt that may be stuck in and around the carpet fibres. Strong suction ensures your carpet stays clean and well maintained.

TIPS FOR VACUUMING YOUR WOOL CARPET

Regular vacuuming should be carried out weekly with more frequent maintenance in high-traffic areas such as hallways and living rooms. This will remove any dirt, soil or surface litter, preventing any particles becoming embedded into the carpet pile. When dirt particles become trapped and accumulate in your carpet, it accelerates wear by grinding at the base of the tufts. Make sure to also vacuum under and around furniture every three months.

When vacuuming, it is important to move the vacuum cleaner slowly, to give time for the dirt to be shaken out and sucked up. Avoid excessive downward pressure on the suction head, which tends to flatten the carpet.

To clean your carpet effectively the vacuum cleaner must be well maintained, and filters and dust bags must be changed or cleaned regularly. Tests have proven that a vacuum cleaner's suction is greatly reduced even by a partially filled dust bag. Older vacuum cleaners may need to be checked. An electrically powered vacuum cleaner is much more efficient than a carpet sweeper.

VACUUMING LOOP PILE WOOL CARPETS

Loop pile carpets may look to be more high maintenance however caring for your loop pile carpet is simple. We recommend the use of a brushless-type plain suction head most of the time when vacuuming. The use of turbo or revolving brush head attachments should be kept to a minimum as they can cause the pile to frizz.

VACUUMING CUT PILE WOOL CARPETS

For cut pile carpets, all types of cleaner heads can be used, but over-use of a revolving brush-style vacuum cleaner head will affect the tailored appearance of your carpet. We recommend you mostly use a plain suction head.
