Shares of industrial and transportation companies rose after surprisingly strong factory data.

U.S. Industrial production rose 0.9% in May, the largest gain since July. Stellantis, the former Jeep Chrysler, has issued a safety recall for more than one million vehicles in the U.S. with rear-view camera issues that could increase the risk of a crash.

Boeing shares slipped as Chief Executive David Calhoun faced a grilling from a congressional committee, apologizing to families affected by the 737 MAX crashes and conceding more reforms were needed.
